Recreational fishing and diving interests have decried a mandate by the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) to destroy and remove approximately 650 decommissioned oil rigs from the Gulf of the Mexico.
On Wednesday, the first environmental non-governmental group (ENGO) announced an official policy on the DOI’s “idle iron” directive, when the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) stated its opposition.
It did so in a blog, by Jack Sterne, director of strategic initiatives, entitled “EDF Stands With Fishermen in Calling for Suspension of Rig Removal Policy.“
