The Salt Report, the first original series on Salt Water Sportsman Thursday, premiers Thursday, March 26 on Field & Stream TV.
A mix of news, game show quizzes, and conversations with industry pros and personalities, The Salt Report brings the talk show format to fishing. From the producers of Sport Fishing Television, The Salt Report is co-hosted by Salt Water Sportsman and Sport Fishing editorial director Shawn Bean and SFTV cinematographer Jon Whittle.
The bio on their Instagram – @the_salt_report – explains it this way: “Fishing is weird, fun, awesome, and crazy. So is our talk show.”
“There are plenty of podcasts and shows that delve into the serious and technical side of fishing,” says Bean, who is also the writer-director of SFTV. “But I think most people’s experience with fishing is having a laugh, telling crazy fishing stories, being in intense and extreme situations, and experiencing nature in a wild, chaotic way. We wanted to create a show that captures that spirit.”
A sneak peek at the first episode confirms Bean’s sentiments. The 50-minute episode includes sponsored segments with fake fishing products, the latest news, trends and world records with Salt Water Sportsman deputy editor Nick Carter, a quiz to guess whether fishing images are real or AI, and an interview with artist, marine biologist, author and conservationist Guy Harvey where he discusses the new documentary about his life and defends the jack crevalle’s reputation as a valued game fish.
Future episodes include conversations with The Qualified Captain founder Aaron Stasiak, Joshua Badder and Justin Karleski, who quit their careers as heavy equipment salesmen to buy an Alaskan fishing lodge, and Miami firefighter Dennis Triana who has amassed 189 IGFA world records. After their premiere on Field & Stream TV, the episodes will be added to Salt Water Sportsman’s YouTube channel.
“We want to do with fishing what Barstool Sports and The Pat McAfee Show have done with sports,” Bean adds. “If you haven’t laughed, learned anything, or yelled at the screen by the end of an episode, we’ve failed.”
