Fishing bays, flats, tidal creeks and other skinny water calls for very special outboard–one that saves weight to minimize draft, while also delivering power and durability. Yamaha’s F70 is just that outboard, ideal for flats skiffs, small center consoles and aluminum boats.
This 1.0-liter 70 hp fourstroke is packed with features that make it perfect for a wide range of boating applications, including a two-piece upper case and pistons that are 10 percent lighter than previous versions.
The F70 combines a 16-valve single-overhead-cam design, electronic fuel injection, a long-track induction system, and 17 percent larger intake valve area that make this model one of today’s most responsive outboards. The F70 turns a high gear-ratio and boasts a wide-open rpm range of 6,300 that maximizes power and thrust. It’s 20-inch shaft length proves ideal for the transoms of flats skiffs and other boats designed for shallow waters.
At 253 pounds, the F70 is also one of the lightest outboards in its horsepower class. That means your boat drafts less so you can easily sneak into skinny water to target bonefish on the flats, largemouth in the sloughs, stripers at creek mouths, or redfish cruising backwaters.
Built with Yamaha’s proprietary alloy (YDC-30), the F70 features an exclusive Phaze Five electro-deposited, anti-corrosive paint system that provides a tough, five-layer barrier against corrosion. This protection is standard on all the Yamaha 70, 60, and 50 hp outboards.
Yamaha has also refreshed the cowling design of the F70, as well as sibling models F50 and F60 and the High Thrust T50 and T60 models, thus aligning with the sleek look of Yamaha’s larger inline-4 and V-6 outboards.
The newly styled cowling features an aerodynamic footprint, promoting efficient airflow over the top and around the sides of the powerhead. Cowling accents are now streamlined with fewer decals for a more uniform look, while the added, raised Yamaha tuning fork emblem on the back of the cowling brings a new level of sophistication.
The F70 (along with the F50 and F60) is now available in Matte Brown color, in addition to traditional Gray. The F70 and F50 also are available in glossy Pearlescent White. The Matte Brown option offers a stealthy approach in the shallows, thanks to a less reflective, earth-toned finish. The Matte Brown also makes for an excellent base layer for tailored camouflaging without the need to sand or prime for those anglers who also like to hunt waterfowl.
Though compact and lightweight, the F70 can use many convenient features associated with Yamaha’s larger outboards including Yamaha’s CL5 touchscreen display. This outboard also features a powerful 15-amp alternator to keep onboard batteries charged to power pumps, lights, electronics and other accessories.
The F70 is available with Yamaha’s optional Variable Trolling RPM Switch for those times when the best technique calls for slow trolling a live bait or lure. Yamaha’s Multi-Function tiller handle is also an option for the F70.
In addition, Yamaha’s F70 is now compatible with the optional Siren 3 Connected Boat monitoring system that lets you keep an eye on security, battery levels, bilge water, and more. Visit yamahaoutboards.com.
V MAX Makeover
Yamaha’s V MAX SHO inline outboards now boast the brand’s signature shiny-black finish and updated cowling style along with new raised graphics, and striping—all set off by the Yamaha tuning-fork emblems.
Available in the 90 through 175 hp categories, the re-styled V MAX SHO outboards are renowned among inshore and shallow-water anglers for their lightweight power, ease of rigging, and suitability to cable-driven foot-pedal acceleration. Bass, bay and flats boats powered by V MAX SHO deliver incredible hole shot and outstanding fuel economy. The VF175 and VF150 outboards are matched with V MAX SHO propellers engineered to maximize torque for quick acceleration and top speed. VF115 and VF90 models feature props with Yamaha’s Shift Dampener System to eliminate the shock associated with shifting gears.
What’s more, V MAX SHO 90 through 175 hp outboards can use Variable Trolling rpm to allow the operator to adjust the engine’s trolling speed for a more concealed fishing experience. Yamaha’s VF150 and VF175 models also now have an added tilt stop lever for ease of maintenance and extended storage situations. To learn more, visit yamahaoutboards.com.
