Garmin introduced its BlueChart Mobile app for iPads and iPhones (requires iOS 6.0 or later) this week, allowing users to enjoy the same data available on the company’s plotters. View shaded depth contours and inter-tidal zones with spot soundings, plan trips, see weather conditions overlaid on the charts and tide data, and search through BlueChart and ActiveCaptain services for nearby amenities.

ActiveCaptain features a web community of more than 100,000 boaters that provides real-time content generated by mariners for mariners. Read and write reviews about marinas and share local boating knowledge, anchorages and hazards.

Interact with the app’s map by using the radial menu to mark waypoints, establish a destination for your route or learn more about the features on the map. When on board your vessel, you can use the Garmin Wi-Fi adapter to connect your iPad to your networked Garmin chart plotter and wirelessly transfer your routes, waypoints and tracks between your iPad or iPhone and chart plotter.
