Airmar Technology has introduced the next generation of Smart speed sensors — the UDST800 ($1,030) and DX900+ ($1,215) — that combine speed, depth and fast-response water temperature into one compact through-hull fitting. The new NMEA2000-compatible sensors eliminate the need for a traditional paddle wheel, so fouling is minimized. The sensors use either electromagnetic or ultrasonic technologies, depending on the model, coupled with digital-signal processing to calculate accurate speeds and deliver data quickly. The DX900+ connects via Bluetooth to Airmar’s new Cast app.
