Michael Grant won first place in this month’s photo contest! For his photo, he will receive Costa sunglasses of his choice. This was one of eight sailfish hooked by Team Three Buoys off Stuart, Florida, during the first cold front of the year. (The team used live bait from two kites and a series of flat lines. All fish were caught and released on 6/0 VMC Tournament Circle Hooks.)

Tarpon in San Jose Lagoon, Puerto Rico

This past weekend, I flew down to the Keys with some friends to wet some lines and collect some stoners. On Sunday, I caught this 25-pound wahoo. It’s my first-ever wahoo and the largest fish I’ve caught so far. Needless to say, I’m one happy lady. My boyfriend, Tom White with Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa, and Joey Keel with Keel & Curley Winery in Plant City put me on the sweet spot – Wilkes-Barre wreckage. I caught it on a Crowder rod, International Penn V reel with 50-pound test and wire leader connected to a pink-and-white skirt.

Bigeye Thresher Shark

After a 3 hour fight, the Double Threat Charters crew finally managed to pull this Thresher shark from the deep. We caught some great photos and GoPro footage, and although it wasnt the swordfish we were looking for, it was still an awesome experience. We caught it while daytime swordfishing off Miami.

Battle Marlin

“This was a 700-lb marrlin we got on my little 28 ft center console in 800-ft off Islamorada. It hit a 9″ blue/gold Islander with ballyhoo. I thought it was a big amberjack because it sounded when hooked, 35 minutes later it launched about 10 yards off the transom…. like a Polaris missle. It greyhounded off in front of the boat but wemanaged to keep up with it. At times we saw the gold of the spool, each time we managed to regain some line. Finally 2-1/2 hours later we got the leader in hand. It was 13 ft long and had the girth of 55 gal drum. What a catch if Islamorada!” – John Elsea
