Bowing to its philosophy of creating multipurpose fishing boats, Wellcraft introduces its newest model in the Coastal line - the 340. The vessel boasts outstanding fishing ability for the hard-core angler while providing the creature comforts and features necessary for family cruising.
The 340 straddles that size border between bigger inboard and smaller outboard models. Thanks to the ever-increasing horsepower of today's outboards, this represents perhaps the most popular trend as opposed to compromise in midsize fishing boats. And big outboards leave lots of extra room aboard in lieu of engine-compartment space.
Wellcraft does a remarkably good job of designing cockpit gunwales high enough to protect wee ones yet close enough to the water to make releasing fish superbly easy. Add to that a 50-gallon livewell, two sizable fish boxes and loads of rod and tackle storage, and you see that Wellcraft really hasn't skimped in the fishing department to accommodate the family.
With society as a whole being far more demanding these days, it's no wonder Wellcraft has ratcheted up the elegance factor down below. The 340 provides all the same comforts of home - within a 34-foot hull. For example, the standard equipment list includes a stainless-steel refrigerator, built-in coffee maker, microwave, wet bar, cooktop stove, hot/cold shower, vanity, Corian countertops, VacuFlush head and custom cherry wood dinette table that converts to full V-berth, allowing for a sleeping capacity of six. Yes, there are a few wonderful options available but none you couldn't live without if you put your mind to it.
Expect the Wellcraft 340 Coastal to reach a top speed in excess of 50 mph with twin 350s and cruise at 33 mph, turning 4,000 rpm. At that speed, Wellcraft suggests a range of about 400 statute miles.
