After a so-so year, Puerto Vallarta’s cow-yellowfin fishing has returned with a vengeance, Capt. Josh Temple tells Sport Fishing.

“We returned last Friday (Feb. 10) from an overnight trip,” says Temple, who runs a 35 Cabo Flybridge. “We fished 60 miles out and had epic action.”

The yellowfin, averaging just over 200 pounds, offered nearly nonstop action. Besides live bait, drifted or fished beneath kites, casting Yo-Zuri poppers and trolling Bonita plugs worked well. Quad hookups on giant yellowfin have not been unusual.

Temple says the fish are balling up pelagic red crabs.
