Berkley Forward

The skinny: This premium braided fishing line is designed for forward-facing sonar fishing. Distinctive forward-weighted construction and optimal sink rate make it ideal for targeting specific spots you pinpoint on your screen.

Break strength: 4- to 17-pound-test available

Daiwa XBraid SS112

The skinny: The SS stands for “safely sinking” in Daiwa’s new braid. Gone is traditional Dyneema construction, replaced with Izanas, an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene material with the highest strength and modulus of any man-made fiber, according to Daiwa. The sinking braid shines when live-baiting, preventing liveys from struggling against a buoyant line.

Break strength: 8- to 30-pound-test available

PowerPro Super 8 Slick V2

The skinny: PowerPro incorporates an eight-end dense weave and Enhanced Body Technology to produce its recognizable smoothness and abrasion resistance. The V2 designation signifies a reengineering of the original Super 8 Slick.

Break strength: 10- to 80-pound-test available

Yo-Zuri SuperBraid

The skinny: Made in its Fukuoka, Japan factory, the PE4 and PE8 strand options are produced via a heat integration process, helping to make them smoother, stronger and more abrasion-resistant.

Break strength: 10- to 130-pound-test available
