women fish too
I have this theory that bringing your blood to the boiling point is probably a good thing now and then, just to clean out the clots.
So in the sense of promoting cardiovascular hygiene, I offer, below, a commentary by Faith Salie on CBS Sunday Morning, entitled “Why Do Men Love Fishing?”
Fishing, this morning, has gone mainstream.
I suspected that, by its title, the little essay would either be revealing (as in new sociological information) or humorous. It proves to be neither (though purports to be the latter).
I found it, in a word, lame. But others found it truly insulting, promoting stupid stereotypes.
So go ahead and read this short, vapid piece. If it pisses you off, that’s understandable. But here’s the instant feel-better remedy: Read the comments (except for one fellow who felt compelled to paste most of a book into comments; I skipped his) which nearly unanimously explain why Ms. Salie’s essay is a disservice to CBS and to the millions of anglers — men and women — in this country who fish.
It’s enough to make a guy ask: Why do (some) women love writing on topics about which they’re clueless?
