The latest model to emerge from the New Smyrna Beach, Florida-based Floyd Skiff Company is the 6WT, a true 16-footer from stem to stern, engineered with a beam of 72 inches on the deck and 56.5 inches at the waterline.
The 6WT drafts 6 to 8 inches, and its expertly designed running surface virtually eliminates hull slap while poling, lending anglers a stealthy approach when chasing spooky fish like bonefish, redfish, tarpon and permit in skinny water. This model is the most diminutive in the Floyd Skiff lineup, bringing the total number of models to four, including the 7WT, 8WT and 10WT.
Floyd recommends a 40 hp outboard for the 6WT, but the skiff is rated for a maximum horsepower of 70. The lamination schedule features a PVC coring, resin infused process below the waterline; PET foam cored resin infused hull sides, bulkheads and deck; plus high-density Coosa composite coring at the transom and in the casting deck.
