Fishing with Capt. Anthony Mendillo of Keen M International out of Isla Mujeres, Jessica Harvey, 22, daughter of marine artist and conservationist Guy Harvey, landed an enormous swordfish estimated to weigh more than 600 pounds. The fish qualifies as an Isla record and is also thought to be one of the largest caught on rod and reel by a female angler in the last 30 years, according to Harvey’s publicist.

The Guy Harvey Expeditions team had traveled to the island off Cancun to film the well-known whale shark aggregations there, as part of an upcoming documentary. On a break, Jessica Harvey, an IGFA Jr. World Record holder, hooked the big swordy in 1,550 feet of water about 15 miles from shore.

The fight lasted almost three hours and was captured on video by the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation.
