Amazing Rescue from Marauding Hammerhead Shark

Amazing Rescue from Marauding Hammerhead Shark

Sport Fishing contributor Capt. Mark Bennett saved this tarpon from a shark. Bennett joked, “I just put a knife in my teeth, jumped in and held him in a choke hold till the tarpon got away. He was just kidding. “Actually, I broke the fish off and idled past the shark. Most of the time
the tarpon will use the boat for cover. Sometimes the shark will follow the boat. This one did. I just drove away and he swam with us.” Photo by Jenni Bennett View previous volumes of Photo of the Day.See your great fishing photo in this space! Email images to editor@sportfishingmag.com. Sheepshead Fishing photo of the day - 2

Sheepish

Sheepshead teeth look near-human. They use their teeth to crush on shelled animals like barnacles, which is why one of the best locations to find sheepshead are near dock pilings. Tarpon Fishing Photo of the Day - Fly Fishing

Throwback Tarpon

A throwback to our 2009 Monthly Photo Contest, to which reader Alex Lovett-Woodsum submitted this fly-caught tarpon. It ate a purple streamer on a 12-weight G.Loomis while she was fishing Florida panhandle’s Appalachicola with Capt. Gjuro Bruer. Alex made one cast, hooked it and the fight was on. After 45 minutes, they finally got the fish to the boat, and she decided to hop in the water for the hero shot. This was by far the best-fighting fish and the biggest tarpon she had ever caught! Venice Redfish Fishing Photo

Chompers

Their habit of tailing in shallow water and the schooling of bull reds at times in open water off beaches make them a favorite target of sight-casters. Reds hit hard and run strong, particularly in skinny water. Photo by Doug Olander See your great fishing photo in this space! Email images to editor@sportfishingmag.com.
