ICAST 2018: New Fishing Lines

Companies debut new braid, fluorocarbon, monofilament and crimping systems at ICAST 2018
New Sufix Advance monofilament fishing line

Sufix Advance Monofilament Fishing Line

Supple, strong and sensitive is how Sufix describes its new Advance monofilament fishing line. Advance combines the best qualities of mono — smooth, easy handling — with the enhanced sensitivity and toughness of fluorocarbon, according to Sufix. Advance combine HMPE molecules — the same as in braided line — with a hyper copolymer to create a line that is supple yet highly abrasion resistant. Stretch is reduced to 50 percent of that of conventional monofilament. Sufix Advance is available in 4- to 25-pound test in clear and low-vis green Jim Hendricks / Sport Fishing
P-Line Gulf Coast Slam fluorocarbon leader line

Gulf Coast Slam Fluorocarbon Leader from P-Line

The new Gulf Coast Slam fluorocarbon leader line emerges from the latest extrusion technology, according to P-Line. It is engineered with extremely high density for fishing heavy structure in warm water and high salinity. Use it when fishing oyster bars, oil rigs or anywhere you need high abrasion resistance. This clear fluorocarbon line’s refractive index makes it virtually invisible under water, P-Line says. Available in 10- to 50-pound test in 50-yard spools beginning in November. PowerPro Super8Slick V2 super-smooth braided fishing line

New Super8Slick V2 Braid from PowerPro

PowerPro has re-engineered its Super8Slick series of braided lines for improved toughness. V2 combine a new 8-end dense weave construction with the proven EBT coating process, according to PowerPro. It now delivers the same smooth, quiet benefits of the original SuperSlick, but with greater abrasion resistance and durability. It will be vailable in 8- to 80-pound test in four colors — onyx, blue, aqua green and moss green — in 150- to 3,000-yard spools, beginning in January 2019. Jim Hendricks / Sport Fishing
Seaguar Gold Label fluorocarbon leader material

Seaguar Gold Label Fluorocarbon Leader

The new Gold Label 100-percent fluorocarbon from Seaguar is 23 percent thinner than any other pure fluoro made Seaguar. At the same time, Gold Label retains the same knot- and tensile-strength, as well as the abrasion resistance, that anglers have come to trust in Seaguar leader material. Gold Label is prepared using Seaguar’s proprietary co-extrusion method that unites two different fluorocarbon resins — a sensitive fluorocarbon core and a supple fluoro exterior. Gold Label fluoro leader will be available in 15- to 40-pound test in 25-yard spools beginning in early 2019. Jim Hendricks / Sport Fishing
New Berkley X5 and X9 braided fishing lines

Berkley X5 and X9 Braided Fishing Line

The new Berkley X5 and X9 braided lines utilize 5- and 9-carrier construction, respectively, that includes a PE core, to create a rounder line that won’t herniate or create wind knots. X5 offers superior abrasion resistance, while X9 excels in smoothness and quiet cast-ability. Both offer outstanding knot strength, according to Berkley. Both will be available in 165- and 330-yard spools in crystal and low-vis green in pound tests ranging from 8 to 80 in September 2018. Jim Hendricks / Sport Fishing
Maxima USA Fishing Line new color coded crimps

Maxima USA Fishing Line Color-Coded Crimps

Maxima USA Fishing Line introduced at ICAST 2018 the GoFish Tackle & Gear color-coded crimps for swaging heavy fluorocarbon and monofilament leaders. The GoFish aluminum alloy crimps are available in 14 brightly anodized colors, making it easy to select the correctly sized diameter crimp for a particular pound-test leader. Each package lists the line diameter and pound-test for the crimps inside. Jim Hendricks / Sport Fishing
Daiwa J-Braid x8 Grand braided fishing line

J-Braid x8 Grand Fishing Line

Daiwa’s new J-Braid x8 Grand fishing line is engineered to resist to abrasion yet also lay smoothly on the spool. J-Braid x8 Grand is spun with Izanas, a state-of-the-art new material utilizing 8 carriers. This results in four times the abrasion resistant as a typically four-carrier braid, according to Daiwa. Colors choices include island blue, grey light and dark green. J-Braid x8 Grand will be available in 6- to 120-pound test in spool sizes ranging from 150 to 3,000 yards. Jim Hendricks / Sport Fishing
