Penn Squall Level Wind

To its Squall line of reels, Penn has added the Level Wind in seven models, including left‑handed and line‑counter versions. The reels feature graphite frames and side plates, line‑capacity rings, and the HT‑100 Versa Drag system. The machined, bronze‑alloy main gear pairs with the stainless‑steel pinion gear for strength and smoothness. The smallest model holds 215 yards of 20‑pound mono or 305 yards of 50‑pound braid, and offers a 4.9‑to‑1 gear ratio. The largest carries 285 yards of 60‑pound mono or 665 yards of 100‑pound braid, with a 4‑to‑1 gear ratio. Prices range from $119.95 to $149.95.

Costa Hamlin

Costa Sunglasses named its new style, Hamlin, after the famed billfisherman Capt. Ron Hamlin. The co‑injected nylon molded frames come with integral hinges and Hydrolite nose pads and temple tips. The extra‑large wrap shape wards off incoming glare; colors include tortoise, matte black, blackout, white and (soon) Realtree Xtra Camo. Available with 580 glass or plastic lenses and in a variety of colors, Hamlins start at $169.

GLoomis Compass Long-Sleeve Tee

GLoomis‘ new Compass Long‑Sleeve Tee features the company’s Trinsic fabric treatment, which wicks away moisture, inhibits bacteria growth and offers UPF 35 sun protection. The shirts come with mesh side panels for ventilation, flat‑rock seams to reduce chafing, and raglan sleeves that allow a full range of motion. Available in sizes M through XXXL, and in black, brown, dark olive and sand, Compass tees cost $60.

Daiwa DXI Inshore

Daiwa says it designed its DXI Inshore rods to meet the specific needs of Gulf Coast anglers, using 1M‑6 graphite blanks and Minima Zirconia ring guides. The six casting and six spinning models employ Fuji reel seats and split‑design natural cork grips. The one‑piece, fast‑action rods are available in medium‑light and medium power; they come in lengths from 6 feet, 6 inches to 7 feet, 6 inches for 8‑ to 20‑pound line weights. They cost $29.95 to $99.95.

Spiderwire Stealth Glow-Vis Braid

Spiderwire has created a hybrid‑color line with its new Stealth Glow‑Vis Braid. Below the water, the light‑green line is less visible to fish; above water, the new Stealth’s UVreflective coating illuminates it so anglers can better watch the line. Spiderwire treats the braid for smoothness; its Color Lock technology resists fading and bleeding. Glow‑Vis Braid is available in pound‑tests from 6 to 80 and in 125‑, 300‑ and 1,500‑yard spools. Prices range from $14.99 to $184.99.

Halco Tackle, maker of plastic and metal lures, works with millions of split rings each year. From that experience, the company now offers Fish Ring Pliers. Made with tool steel, the pliers not only open the split ring but also enable a firm grip on the metal for turning — without stretching the ring. Sport Fishing editors have found the Halco pliers among the most effective such tools made. The 4.5‑inch‑long pliers work on any size split ring and cost $24.99.

JAW Lures Double Deluxe

JAW Lures says its products come with more than two decades of testing. Its Double Deluxe trolling lure (pictured) features an 8‑foot length of 100‑ to 200‑pound monofilament leader. The mono is run into and out of a crimping sleeve to form a second length of leader. After adjusting the two mono legs, the crimp is tightened to form a loop at one end. To one leg, JAW adds a single‑hook Boone rubber skirt; to the second, it adds a smaller single‑hook Boone skirt. The different weights and line lengths keep the lures from tangling, JAW says. Double Deluxe rigs cost $12 to $14.
