FLIR has launched its latest handheld thermal camera, the Ocean Scout 640. With a thermal resolution of 640 by 512 pixels, this Ocean Scout can register the heat of vessels, buoys, floating debris and people in total darkness at even greater distances than its predecessors; it can detect a small vessel almost 2 miles away. The camera also features 8x digital zoom and a 640-by-480-pixel LCD screen. It records NTSC video, and its rugged casing withstands harsh, wet conditions. The Ocean Scout 640 costs $3,499.
