Lower Tampa Bays gator trout action is hot! Before we get to the action we started by gathering bait on the grass flats rather than fighting 1-2’ swells along the local bridges. A few minutes of chumming and 7 throws of the cast net and we were good to go.

Captain Steven could talk about today’s incredible action for hours! Our trip started getting bait which was a breeze. Beautiful white baits are thick along the Skyway Bridge and took only 2 tosses of my 12’ 3/8” cast net. With the live well full we headed to the St. Pete Beach area.

Hope this helps.

The Big Macks are back! Our day started at low tide on a grass flat targeting spotted sea trout. The red hot bite the last few weeks was sluggish this morning. Tossing live shrimp under a popping cork and DOA CAL jerk baits took trout to 15”. After a dozen or so small fish we moved shallower loo ...

The most recent cold front is history and a rapid warm up is at hand. Cold fronts in March are more about winds on Tampa Bay. I was not hugely optimistic as the water temperature dropped 6 degrees and was still stirred up from recent winds. Add in a slow one tide day and you can see where I am c ...
