Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament
Any way you look at it, from participation, cash awards, fishing and just plain fun, the Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament is a top-notch event to have on your summer calendar. All one has to do is look at last year, where anglers combined to catch and release over 190 billfish, including 13 blue marlin, seven sailfish, four spearfish and 166 white marlin. In addition, there were awards for yellowfin tuna, dolphin and wahoo. Prize-winning paychecks aren't bad either, with the top crew taking home over $200,000. And then there's the auction, which raised over $61,000 for the Recreational Fishing Alliance, The Billfish Foundation and local charities. Miami Swordfish Tournament
The 6th Annual Miami Swordfish Tournament will be held at the Miami Beach Marina with an awards banquet at Texas de Brazil. It is the final leg of the Swordfish Series, sponsored by Southstar Development Partners. Anglers will vie for the beautiful C.R. Randy Buck bronze swordfish and a check for $10,000. The largest swordfish in the series is also worth $5,000. The Miami Swordfish Tournament will award $50,000 in cash and prizes based on a 50-boat turnout. The winner's boat will be painted into next year's artwork, as well as on T-shirts and the cover of next year's magazine. The World Billfish Series is sanctioning the tournament as part of its southeastern division. Many of the top WBS anglers compete for points towards the series championship, as the Miami tournament usually determines the winner of the southeastern division. For the first time, the event will be carbon neutral. Proceeds for the tournament will be used to buy carbon credits to offset the carbon produced from the tournament. The Miami Swordfish Tournament is a proud supporter of The Billfish Foundation, International Game Fish Association and the Recreational Fishing Alliance.
