Wrap It Up

Winding excess line around the shaft will prevent your rods from becoming a tangled mess during transport.

Transporting rods and reels rigged with hooks or lures often results in a snarled mess. Trying to pull one of these jumbles out of a trunk or sport-utility vehicle can result in torn upholstery, a ripped headliner or even a broken rod. One way to help keep lines from tangling is to secure them tightly to the rod, making it harder to slip another rod or lure under the line. Just wrap the line once or twice around a guide to snug it up next to the blank. This trick works on all rod types.
