Bridge-mounted teasers strung through the outriggers constitute an integral part of Capt. Hook's strategy here in Guatemala. While I entice sails within range of our fly or conventional anglers with strip-baits or ballyhoo on teaser rods, Capt. Ron Hamlin clears the two bridge teasers. But teasers swinging freely on the last 6 feet of line can get in the way when hooked fish charge past the cockpit toward the bow.
Once our anglers hook up, I pull the teaser to the cockpit with a small gaff, then lock it to the outrigger base with an old rigger clip. Two cable ties hold the clip securely, and this system keeps anglers' lines from tangling in the teasers. After we release a fish, Capt. Ron just gives a sharp tug on the line to pop the clip open and drop the teaser back into position.
