Swinging-Hook Lure

Add a hook to a painted trolling weight to make each line more enticing.

Double your chances of a hookup by rigging a swinging-hook lure to substitute for your in-line trolling weight. Enhance a trolling weight of 2 to 32 ounces (depending upon specific fishing conditions) by painting it the color of your choice, then use a split ring to attach a hook to one end. I recommend a #10 split ring for a 12/0 hook and a #6 split ring for a 7/0 hook. Complete the rig with a 6- to 10-inch plastic grub-tail and attach the swinging-hook lure to a three-way swivel ahead of your trolling lure. I have taken large red drum and doubled up on stripers with this lure.
