Simple Chum Storage

Easy, homemade chum containers.

Recycle your empty cardboard milk cartons as chum containers. Empty and wash the milk carton, then fill with fresh chum, about three-quarters full to allow for expansion when frozen. Staple or tape the carton shut and freeze.
Thanks to the convenient size and shape of the containers, several can be stored in your freezer at home. When needed, the chum fits easily into your bait cooler and helps keep your other baits cool and fresh.
To use, cut a couple holes in the milk carton and place in a chum basket or mesh bag. You can control the flow of chum by the size and number of the holes.
