Whether fly casting for tarpon or tossing jigs for speckled trout, you'll get more enticing action from your lures if you tie them directly to the line via a loop knot. Try using my reinforced loop. It may take a few extra seconds to tie, but you'll find it's very strong and holds well in monofilament from 6- to 100-pound test.
Tie a double-overhand knot (run tag through loop twice) and leave an 8-inch tag.
Pull both ends slowly. The knot will form a figure eight - don't pull these loops completely closed.
Run tag end through hook eye or lure, and insert tag in first loop of figure eight. Make sure tag doesn't enter this loop on the same side it comes out; otherwise the loop knot will slip.
Draw end loop to desired size by pulling tag, then insert tag in second loop of the figure eight.
Secure knot with a half-hitch around standing line; pull tag end to tighten.
