Using circle hooks while chunking for tuna has become very popular on both coasts. Unfortunately, most hooks feature shiny finishes, requiring great care to hide them in the bait because of tunas' keen eyesight. Some manufacturers offer black circle hooks, but they're very expensive (more than $1 per hook).
I paint hooks by attaching a swivel and dipping in a can of flat black Rust-Oleum, then hanging them on nails to dry. An 8-ounce can of paint will cover over 250 hooks. You'll also benefit by knowing which hooks have been sharpened because the file removes paint from the hookpoint.
