Live Bait for Big Blues

Try a new bait rig for targetting blue marlin.

This is the strongest and most productive live-bait rig I've ever used. Start with a 12/0 hook rigged on a heavy rod. Attach a rigging needle to each end of an 18-inch length of 200-pound test rigging wire. Wrap the middle of the wire around the 12/0 hook.
For live bait, I like a small yellowfin or other tuna averaging about 2 pounds. Starting with one end of the wire on each side of the fish, run the needles in opposite directions through the tuna's head, just above the eye sockets. Pull the wires through until only about 2 to 3 inches of double wire remain between the bait and the hook. Remove the rigging needles.
Starting with one wire end, wrap tightly around the double wire, starting just above the fish's head and working up. When that whole wire is wrapped, start wrapping the second wire end above the first.
This rig only takes a few seconds to make and is the best I've found for targeting big blue marlin. - T. Walker, Pembroke Pines, Florida
