Keep It Cool

Throw a bag of ice in into livewells to extend your bait's life. That is, until you put a hook through its body and feed it to a bigger fish.

One of the greatest threats to live baitfish or shrimp down here in the South is heat. A simple method to cool the water in your live well without decreasing the water's salinity level is to throw a handful of ice cubes in a sealable sandwich bag, then toss it into your live well. Let the bag stay in the live well until the water cools or the ice has completely melted. Be sure to remove the bag once the ice has melted to make sure that it doesn't interfere with the water circulation inside the well.
