Hose Your Tower

Keep your gaffs close at hand.

The ladder on a boat's tower serves as a safe and convenient place to hang a gaff: The sharp point stays well out of harm's way, yet the mate has only to turn around and grab the handle when a fat tuna comes to the transom. But after spending a pretty penny on your tower, the last thing you want to do is scratch it and let corrosion take a foothold.
Cut a section of rubber hose, slit it lengthwise and place it over the ladder where you hang the gaff. Cable ties or hose clamps hold the protection in place, and you no longer have to worry about rubbing off the tower's finish.
