Handcuff That Downrigger

Your line and leader will never suffer abrasion from your downrigger.

I create a "handcuff" for my downrigger rod by leaving an 18-inch tag of main line after attaching the leader with a blood knot and then tying a surgeon's loop in the end of the tag line. This little trick allows me to set a tighter clip tension - resulting in solid hookups and fewer lost fish. The predetermined distance from release clip to lure guarantees uniformity in presentation, and abrasion is not a concern because the line and leader never touch the release clip.
