So you finally located that missing package of brass barrel swivels: in the bottom of the bilge and turned a nice shade of "corrosion green." I have a simple yet effective solution that removes corrosion from brass, hooks, and metal lures or spoons.
Place the corroded items in a large, lidded plastic bowl with a handful of beach sand. Put the lid on and shake. After a few minutes the green corrosion, rust and dull salt scum will be gone. Rinse with fresh water; sharpen the hooks and spray with your favorite lubricant.
It's amazing how well this works, and the cleanup becomes easier than keeping track of your swivels.
