A lure should closely imitate baitfish in the area, but it should also stand out in some small way in order to draw attention to itself and invite further investigation from predators. Soft-plastic baits are effective shallow-water artificials that mimic the size and texture of baitfish or other prey.
You can make these lures even more eye-catching by dipping them in a liquid dye. Give a chartreuse bait an orange-tipped tail or add contrasting colors such as red to the head of a white lure - the possibilities are endless. A bottle of liquid dye takes care of more than 50 soft-plastic baits. Order your favorite colors from catalog retailers or find them in larger tackle shops.
