There are times when fish prefer small jigs, but problems arise when lightweight artificials make long casts difficult. Although tying on a heavier jig and a small-jig dropper is one option, the large jig causes the small one to sink too fast. Rather, try rigging two same-size lures in tandem.
By doubling up on small jig-heads, you can toss your offerings farther without sacrificing delicate presentation or changing the lures' sink rate. Tie the first jig directly to the main line using your favorite loop knot, then attach a 12-inch dropper to the bend of the jig's hook. A clinch knot works well here. Complete the tandem rig with another jig and loop knot at the end of the dropper.
This rig fools seatrout, striped bass, snook and other species. Fish attack both the first jig and the trailer, and the dropper line doesn't interfere with solid hook-sets.
