During a day fishing for bluefin tuna on the Tyrrhenian Sea in the Mediterranean, I was surprised to see an unusual visual attraction system being used. This system worked well, and should be easy to adapt to other bluefin or yellowfin fisheries.
The method used four glittering laminations bound together by a cord. The aim of these laminations was to reflect light in the water, giving the chum slick behind the boat a visual appeal as well.
To create the rigs, laminate large pieces of bright white paper, punch holes in each long end and string the laminates together with a heavy cord, leaving about 8 feet of cord between each panel. In strong currents, add a weight below the last laminate to keep the cord nearly perpendicular to the boat.
