Big Hook, Little Hook

Connect a smaller hook to a larger one to avoid killing small live baits.

When using small live baits for game fish like California yellowtail and small tunas, your hook can be too large for the bait being used. You can't use a smaller wire hook when targeting these tough fish for fear of straightening out your hook. My solution: Tie a small wire hook to a regular 3X 2/0 with some Dacron or superbraid, and then secure it further with a dab of Superglue or resin. You can now place the bait on the small hook without mortally wounding it and still have enough hook to stand up to a hard-fighting fish. You can use this rig over and over without the need to change out the smaller hook.
