Tired of untangling sabiki rigs and getting pricked in the process? Try this trick for making bait: Form a 24-inch chain by crimping #8 single-strand wire into 1 1/4-inch-diameter, interlocking circles. Tie a 1/2-inch-wide red plastic ribbon to the first and last loops, but don't run this ribbon through the other loops. Attach a 1/2-ounce sinker to the bottom loop, and tie your main line to the top loop.
From your boat or dock, suspend the rig in the water; you don't have to jig it up and down. Current makes the ribbon flutter, thereby attracting baitfish, which then gill themselves in the wire loops. Loop diameter should be adjusted in accordance with the size of bait sought.
