Atlantic Halibut Above the Arctic Circle

Recreational fishing on the northern coast of Norway

Yes, Virginia, halibut do swim in the North Atlantic. True, we've pretty much wiped out the leviathans of the flatfish world on this side of the big pond. But on the far side, they're alive and well. A Swedish fishing guide has really dialed in the sport fishery for Atlantic halibut on the northern coast of Norway, above the Arctic Circle. Sport Fishing went there in early August to check out this new fishery. Recreational fishermen have landed two halibut over 400 pounds in the past year - and lost bigger!

You can read all about it in an issue of SF next year - and find out why it's completely different from our own Pacific halibut fishing in many startling ways as well as how you can book a trip yourself.

For now, here's a taste of what you'll see and read about in more detail in the feature on this amazing trophy halibut fishery.
