A new IGFA All-Tackle record for a salmon shark (Lamna ditropis) might be close for Michael Poling, of Anchorage, Alaska, USA. Guided by Tom Konop, while fishing Prince Alaska's William Sound, Poling used a salmon carcass as bait to entice the shark on August 4. He battled it for an hour and 15 minutes to finally weigh it in at 183.7 kg (405 lb 0 oz). The current IGFA record is 365 lb 0 oz (165.56 kg), caught on August 9, 2005 off Valdez, Alaska.
