In recent months Kamil Hampl, of Cartago, Costa Rica, has put together a string of possible world records fishing along the Pacific coast of her home country. Her latest pending achievement came on Dec. 28, guided by Edgar Montero off Golfito, Costa Rica, after landing a Pacific jack crevalle (Caranx caninus) weighing 10.35 kg (22 lb 13 oz). She was using live sardines on 6 kg (12 lb) class line and took 40 minutes to land the jack. The current IGFA women's line class record is 20 lb 12 oz (9.42 kg), caught on Sept. 15, 1987 off Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
