While fishing near Ancon, in his home country of Ecuador, Carlos "Charly" Casal of Guayaquil, guided by Angel De Rosa, landed a broomtail grouper (Mycteroperca xenarcha) one of the newest species added April 1 to the IGFA World Record Game Fishes list. Casal made his catch on April 25, using a MirrOlure 111. He's hoping to be the first to capture the currently vacant IGFA men's 15 kg (30 lb) line class record for the fish that weighed 5.44 kg (12 lb 0 oz).
