Video: Disappearing Ghost-Octopus

Marine biologist Roger Hanlon nearly ran straight into this magician of an octopus. Can you spot it?

This octopus is the Houdini of the ocean.

Marine biologist Roger Hanlon captured this illusion on camera ten years ago. He was conducting a study in the Caribbean and following this particular octopus for about an hour. The octopus went undercover without Hanlon’s knowledge.

“I followed the animal and finished the dive,” Hanlon says. “I popped to the surface and screamed bloody murder, they thought I was having a dive accident.”

Hanlon was in fact having an “eureka moment.”

He has been studying about camouflage in cephalopods – squid, octopus and cuttlefish.

These masters of optical illusion, the chameleons of the sea, will blow your mind.
