Striped Bass Game Fish 2006 Game Fish Symposium May 20, 2006

Collectively these speakers will address the benefits associated with designating wild striped bass as a game fish...

We are pleased to announce that Steve Williams, the Executive. Director of the Wildlife Management Institute and past Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will address the striped bass game fish symposium.  He will be joined by Russell Nelson Ph.D., who oversaw the designation of redfish as game fish in Florida, Mike Freeze a striped bass aquaculturist - and also the Chairman of the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, Bruce Freeman, the recent past Fisheries Director for New Jersey, and Rob Southwick, author of the Southwick Study commissioned last year by Stripers Forever.  Collectively these speakers will address the benefits associated with designating wild striped bass as a game fish and ending the destructive pressures brought about by the sale of these fish.

Immediately following the Symposium, we will host a cash bar with hors d'oeuvres, followed by a first class banquet and auction.  Together with our partners, the Federation of Fly Fishers, the International Gamefish Association, and the American Sportfishing Association, we have been working hard to provide an exciting variety of auction items.  Go to the SF website at, click on the Striped Bass Game Fish 2006 event link on the home page, select Auction Items from the menu and check out some of the items that will be available.  Special thanks are due to members of the guiding industry who are really stepping up to the plate.

We are putting together a number of trips like one with Captains Bellefleur, Noyes, and Burnett to fish eastern Long Island Sound.  This is a trip for two, but for three consecutive days - one day with each of these renowned guides.  With the website you and your fishing partner can pre-select the trips that you would really like to take.  We have some great ones: Martha's Vineyard, Boston Harbor, Maine, several on Cape Cod, Nantucket, Plum Island, Narragansett Bay, even salmon fishing on the fabled Miramichi River, and more.

If guided trips aren't your style, you haven't been left out.  We have picture art, carvings, rods, reels, lines, clothing, and much more?  You can attend either the symposium, the banquet, or both.  Tickets can be ordered directly through the website.  Don't miss this event and a great chance to support striped bass game fish.
