See You at the Big Game Room

The Big Game Room inside the Miami International Boat Show returns February 16-20, 2006, for its third year.

The Big Game Room inside the Miami International Boat Show returns February 16-20, 2006, for its third year. Developed in 2003, the BGR debuted inside the existing framework of the Miami show the following year in 2004. Since then, the area, sponsored by Marlin and Sport Fishing magazines, has enjoyed continued growth and success.

Organizers heavily promote the Big Game Room to the sport-fishing elite; the area features exhibitors and visitors from the finest destinations in the world, including Guatemala, Costa Rica, Bimini, the Virgin Islands, Hawaii and the Kingdom of Tonga. This annual gathering for fishing enthusiasts also includes celebrity anglers, tournament organizers, boat manufacturers, blue-water tackle manufacturers, conservation groups and artists.

Expect nonstop action. Starting at the Marlin Bar, visitors can enjoy daily seminars led by legends and experts in the sport, including Peter B. Wright and Dave Ferrell. The fun continues with educational demonstrations at the Bait Rigging Station, nautical fashion shows, daily happy hours with promotional giveaways and entertainment. The Big Game Room has become the place to meet, network and tell fish stories at the Miami boat show.

Last year, BGR organizers proudly presented an exclusive private screening of Billfish: A Challenge for Survival, produced by Diana Udel and featuring spectacular underwater footage filmed by Dr. Guy Harvey. Hundreds of attendees stayed for the private reception and showing of the documentary, which focused on the plight of billfish.

Also new in 2005 and back by popular demand for 2006 is the Bait Rigging Station, where experts demonstrate rigging techniques. Each session lasts an hour, and attendees receive hands-on training. Topics have included how to rig ballyhoo and mullet, how to use teasers and how to properly sharpen hooks.

Big Game Room visitors will once again enjoy the exhibitor prize giveaway in 2006. Last year's prizes included signed prints by Carey Chen and Guy Harvey; a weekend at Mainsail Resort in Tampa, Florida; a full-day sport-fishing charter; fishing gear; and clothing.

To find the Big Game Room, navigate to the second level of the Miami Beach Convention Center just above Hall B (Fishing Boat Hall). You can find the BGR at the top of the B-lobby escalator or at the bottom of the Skywalk escalator.

The Miami International Boat Show is owned and produced by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
