San Diego’s “Day at the Docks” Takes Place Sunday, April 21

The West Coast's largest celebration of recreational fishing will include more than 200 exhibitors and a host of family activities, and admission is free.

San Diego’s 34th annual Day at the Docks, the West Coast’s largest celebration of sportfishing, will take place this Sunday, April 21, to kick off the beginning of Southern California’s spring fishing season. The day-long festival is on the waterfront at San Diego’s sportfishing landings, and admission and parking are free.

Set to start at 9 a.m., Day at the Docks activities will include a special fishing event for kids (with dockside pens stocked with fish), angling seminars and tours the big boats in San Diego’s sportfishing fleet.

Sponsored and produced by the San Diego Sportfishing Council with support from the San Diego Unified Port District and the County of San Diego, the festival will also include more than 200 exhibits and raffles for thousands of dollars of prizes, including fishing equipment, fishing trips, tackle and attractions donated by sponsors and exhibitors to benefit the San Diego Burn Institute.

Other activities will include a casting competition, knot-tying contest, art contests for kids, and boat rides around San Diego Bay for $2 per person.

In one of the most popular events, the Kid’s Fishing Adventure sponsored by Okuma Fishing Tackle, youngsters ages 4 to 12 will be provided rods, reels and assistance to catch fish in special dockside pens stocked with Pacific mackerel.
