Sailfish Crazy! Key West Sails Go Off

Record number of sailfish caught on first day of tournament

"We cast at probably at least 40 fish and got 20 to bite!"

That comment, by Capt. Jeff Scott of Pompano Beach, Florida, on Advanced Roofing, offers a taste of how went the first day of the World Sailfish Championships out of Key West.

A record one-day tally saw 53 boats release 362 sails on Wednesday (April 18). Three teams totaled 20 releases.

Scott says most of the action involved sight casting and that opportunities came pretty consistently all day long.

Fishing continues today (Thursday), with a lay day scheduled for Friday, and a final fishing day Saturday (April 21).
