Key Biscayne, Florida: We are pleased to report that 2006 is the tenth anniversary year for The Presidential Challenge Conservation Series. In celebration of this event we are having The PCCA 10th Anniversary Challenge in early 2007. This tournament will be an invitational event held out of Marina Pez Vela, Iztapa, Guatemala.
Twenty teams have qualified for this tournament to date. Invitations will be issued to former winners of the Lowrance Grand Champion Team Award and teams winning individual PCCA tournaments over the past ten years. The winning teams in 2006 will qualify as well.
The format for this event will closely follow the regular PCCA rules. The exception is that private boats will not be allowed. All teams will fish according to a boat draw. Teams will fish together along with an IGFA Certified Observer. Anglers will troll conventional tackle using Berkley line and Eagle Claw circle hooks.
We are very proud of our accomplishments in billfish conservation over the past ten years. Our tournaments have brought an awareness of the necessity for good catch and release practices to the venues where we fish. The events have helped to draw attention to the major economic impact that sport fishing has in Central America. We were the first tournament in the world to require the use of circle hooks. Now, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Guatemala require them to be used by law. This movement has spread to the United States and the Caribbean. We will proudly dedicate the proceeds from the 10th Anniversary Challenge to The Billfish Foundation's Central American Research Fund.
