Marine Electronics Leader Recognized For New Networked Navigation/Entertainment System

Acton, Mass. - Northstar, a leader in the design and manufacture of world-class marine navigation systems, announced today its innovative 8000i Networked Navigation and Entertainment System was awarded the 2006 National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Boating Writers International (BWI) Innovation Award for the Marine Electronics category at this year's Miami International Boat Show. As stated by the NMMA, The Innovation Awards program, organized by NMMA and judged by BWI, recognizes those products that best meet the following criteria: innovative distinction from other products currently being manufactured; benefit to the marine industry and/or consumer; practicality; and cost-effectiveness.

In a statement on the 8000i, the judges wrote, "The 8000i offers video, navigation, radar display, CD player and connectivity to other electronic devices, including Mercury Marine's SmartCraft engine sensors technology, in one easy-to-use touch screen unit. Each display has its own CPU so if one screen sustains damage, the user can simply move to another screen and continue navigating or checking engine controls with no loss of data."

"It is an honor to receive the NMMA and BWI Innovation Award for our new Northstar 8000i," said David Ritblatt, vice president & general manager, BNTME. "When developing products, our sole focus is on the needs of the boater; this award lets us know that the industry recognizes our efforts and designs."

Packed with all of the essentials boaters expect from an industry-leading networked navigation system, the 8000i goes the extra mile by adding integrated networked entertainment functionality. The innovative new system offers access to GPS plotting, sounder readings, radar displays, camera feeds, full screen video, digital instruments, a DVD player, CD player and MP3 jukebox from any of the 8000i devices boaters choose for their network - all on a gorgeous, super daylight viewable 12" or 15" display. The network is capable of supporting up to twenty displays. The 8000i also features the latest in touch screen technology using infrared to ensure lightning fast response, crystal clear visibility in all lighting environments, and protection against the degradation associated with older touchscreen technologies.

Northstar's new 8000i can be purchased through authorized Northstar dealers worldwide. For more information or to learn more about the 8000i, Northstar and its entire product line, contact 800-628-4487 (toll-free), or visit
