Featuring a new name and a new direction, the Women's Fall Classic Fly Tournament is set for Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 17-19, in Islamorada.
Previously called the Women's World Invitational Fly Championship Bonefish Series, the revamped all-release, fly-only tournament is to have anglers fishing for four different species. Target species include bonefish (250 points per release), snook (125 points), redfish (100 points) and tarpon (175 points). All tarpon, snook and redfish must be a minimum of 20 inches long.
Top awards is to go to the angler who has the most releases of all four species. Bonus points are to be awarded to boats that release all four species on the same day of tournament fishing.
The new format offers anglers the opportunity to fish in teams, but only one line is permitted in the water at a time, with anglers taking turns.
A kick-off party and rules meeting is set for Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 5:30 p.m. The location has not been determined.
The Lorelei Restaurant and Cabana Bar, mile marker 82 bayside in Islamorada, is to serve as tournament headquarters.
The awards dinner is set for Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Lorelei.
Proceeds benefit the Don Hawley Foundation, an organization that supports needy individuals within the Florida Keys fishing industry, charitable organizations and educational facilities.
