Four anglers recently set new Mississippi saltwater sportfishing records. The Commission on Marine Resources certified the two conventional tackle records and two fly-fishing records during its June 16 meeting.

Conventional Tackle:

• Derek Palmer of Pass Christian set a new record for conventional tackle June 2 with a tiger shark weighing 90 pounds, 15.2 ounces.
• Donald Armes Jr. of Pass Christian set a new record for Atlantic sharpnose shark on June 2 with a weight of 6 pounds, 4 ounces.

Fly-fishing:

• Doug Borries of Ocean Springs broke the state saltwater fly-fishing record for red snapper on June 2 with a weight of 12 pounds, 2.9 ounces, breaking the previous record of 5 pounds, 0.2 ounces set in June 2002.
• Rick Lauman of Ocean Springs broke the state saltwater fly-fishing record for spotted seatrout May 11 with a weight of 6 pounds, 0.8 ounces. The previous record was set in June 2006 with a speckled seatrout weighing 5 pounds, 4.8 ounces.
