(Navarre Beach, FL) - The long-awaited Navarre Beach Pier will soon offer vacationers another reason to check out northwest Florida's beaches. Scheduled to open Saturday, June 5 at 9 a.m., the pier extends more than 1,500 feet from the shore into emerald green waters, making the pier the longest along the Gulf of Mexico. "The pier offers our guests recreational fishing opportunities they can't find anywhere else," said Kate Wilkes, executive director of the Santa Rosa County Tourism Development Council. "Now when guests plan their vacations, their to-do list can include catching fresh grouper, amberjack and snapper."
The Gulf of Mexico is a big draw here: the area's beaches are named among the best in the nation year after year; Frommer's selected Northwest Florida's Gulf Coast as a Top 12 Destination for 2010, and Gulf Islands National Seashore is one of only ten beaches in the country to be preserved by that designation.
