Local fishing trip for the disabled has national appeal

Orange County charity inspires corporations to help disabled kids.

The non profit organization Fish for Life will launch its first fishing trip on May 8th, from Dana Point on the vessel Dana Pride, owned and operated by Dana Wharf Sportfishing.

Come to the Dana Point Harbor on May 8th and see a remarkable example of love in action! There will be 30 kids with disabilities ranging from Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Down Syndrome boarding the Dana Pride at 10am with their parent to enjoy a complimentary half day of fishing. The special details of this voyage are designed to make this experience a memory of a lifetime for everyone involved.

For starters, we begin the day by introducing the selected disabled children & parents and inviting them to board the boat by walking down the boat ramp on a red carpet bringing them well deserved attention. Once aboard, all participants will be divided into small teams and assigned a Fishing Team Leader who will be responsible for his or her need throughout the trip, but most of all will help them catch fish!

Hurley, Nike, Wyland Galleries, Henry's Market and Volcom have generously donated prizes for the winnings teams (all kids win!!).  Dana Wharf Sportfishing, Friends of Rollo kids fishing charities, Sportfishing Association of California and Quest Software have all donated funds to make this trip happen.

Dana Point Harbor Master Brad Gross has arranged for a fire boat to escort the Fish for Life boat from the harbor (unless needed for an emergency) while shooting water and blasting sirens for the kids to celebrate the event.  Lunch and Hors d?oeuvres will be provided compliments of Ralphs, Albertsons and local restaurants.

A Photographer will be on board and another on a private boat from the water will take individual and group pictures throughout the trip that will be assembled, edited to music and sent to each family on a disc for them to relive the memories of the day and share with loved ones. All helpers selected for tasks during the trip have eagerly volunteered because they want to love and help these often neglected children and devote a day to make them feel very special.
