The Middle Keys ladies were smokin' hot with a record catch during the two-day 33rd annual Ladies Tarpon Tournament, held May 9-10 in Marathon.
Thirty fish were caught and released on opening day, trumped by 41 the next. Barbara Hewlett of Marathon won the individual title, accumulating a whopping 2,250 points with 10 tarpon.
The award for second-place angler went to Jamie Callion with eight fish and 1,800 points. Kimberly Farnes' six fish earned her third place with 1,350 points. Both anglers are from Marathon.
All of the winners' tarpon were caught on 12-pound-test line.
In the team competition, Callion and Farnes won with a total 3,150 points.
Marathon's Nancy Ponzoa and individual champion Barbara Hewlett earned 2,700 points for second place in the team division, and third place went to Sally Willmoth of Dallas, Texas, and Stacy Vankirk of Marathon, with 900 points.
The traveler's trophy went to Gail Ellis of Nantucket, Conn.
Twenty-four anglers fished the tournament, releasing 71 tarpon to beat the 2007 record of 42 tarpon.
